Underground at the Alte Saline

Underground at the Alte Saline
Our name is no coincidence: Bad Reichenhall has been a salt town for centuries, and its finest landmark is just a short walk from the hotel. The Alte Saline was rebuilt under King Ludwig I and is one of Bavaria’s most important industrial monuments.

The guided tour of about an hour takes you underground: past the mighty water wheels in the main pump house, which still turn today, and through the cool tunnels where the brine is drawn from the springs. The adjoining salt museum explains how “white gold” made the town wealthy.

Our tip: perfect for a rainy day or the morning before check-out. Ask us at reception for today’s tour times.
